It went even a step beyond ad blocking to remove a lot of the annoyances of the web — like having to maintain a bunch of bookmarks and navigate to each one each day, searching around for what has changed. + +That's why this RSS feed is really important to me. I feel like the trend with new personal sites is to outright reject everything that happened on the web after 2000 or so. I understand the design to get as far away from the new commercial web as possible, but some of it is actually good. Also, RSS isn't really part of the commercial web anyway. Google proved that years ago when they killed reader. Commerce generally doesn't happen over RSS, and RSS is a safe space for us to play in. It allows us to consume the web on our own terms. + +That's why I'm taking a different approach. I'm going in the opposite direction and paying _more_ attention to my RSS feed. I'm going to try to hand craft each RSS entry to make my feed super useful and interesting. I want to build a site that ultimately isn't just a blog and incorporates some modalities of the olden times, like "shrines" and that sort of thing. Content that isn't necessarily timely, but it does get added to my site at a time. The job of my RSS is to let people know what's been added as it gets added, and to do that in a fun way. + +The downside is this means every post I write, page I update, or shrine I… enshrine, also needs another piece of content: an entry in the feed. We'll see how long that holds. Wish me luck! šŸ¤ž
